People frequently post inquiries on the various whitewater rafting news groups, asking which shuttle companies they should use for rafting trips on a particular river. In answer to those sorts of questions, here are the companies we use, why we use them, and a little information about each one.
River Runners Transport Ed and Melanie Morrison run a top-notch shuttle operation out of their small river equipment store, located right on the main drag through Vernal, UT (Hwy 40). Call ahead for a reservation, then stop in to finalize your shuttle. Or just give them a call to make arrangements to leave your keys, check, and paperwork at the put-in if you won't be passing through Vernal. Melanie is great on the phone and you can expect to be well cared for. I'm always on the lookout for a good T-shirt or hat so I like to stop by the store. They stock the stuff you really need like that PFD you left at home! Besides gear for sale, RRT rents individual pieces of equipment and full raft packages.
All Rivers Shuttle John Collins and Michelle McNamee are located right smack dab in downtown Whitebird! You drive right past their office after you turn off Hwy 95 at the bottom of the White Bird Grade, on your way into Hammer Creek. They have a very nice on-line reservation system, with quick email confirmation. There's quite a bit of useful information about the Lower Salmon on their website and you can pick up maps and guidebooks at their office. They also do Snake and Main Salmon shuttles.
River Shuttles We tend to use River Shuttles for our Main Salmon trips because they are so convenient. We call ahead for reservations and then stop into their agent at the North Fork Store on our way to Corn Creek to do the paperwork. Their offices are in Salmon, ID, and they also shuttle the Middle Fork. River Shuttles new website features a long list of local services including motels and air services into Indian Creek, etc. Very handy resource.
Blackadar Boating These folks have a great and well deserved reputation for excellent service and we love to use them on the Middle Fork. They have a retail and rental shop on Hwy 93, just north of Salmon, ID. They employ excellent drivers and they go the extra mile. Call for reservations, and call early if you want to use Blackadar. As with River Shuttles, they shuttle both the Middle Fork and Main and there are lots of local phone numbers, and useful bits of info on their website.
Galice Resort For trips on the Rogue, we use Galice Resort to shuttle our vehicles from Almeda County Park or Grave Creek down to the take-out at Foster Bar. The resort is located just over a mile upstream from the Rand Ranger Station (Smullin Visitor Center) where you pick up your permit. Strangely, the resort has not wanted to take shuttle reservations and instead works on a 'walk in' basis. But do call ahead for the latest info.
